Mine Security

The Hidden Risks Costing South African Mines Millions

Hidden risks like borehole instability, groundwater migration, and inadequate sealing practices don’t just interrupt work — they erode profitability. With advanced diagnostics and engineered occlusion solutions, mines can plug these financial drains before they escalate.

Every open borehole is an entry point for thieves targeting your cables, explosives, and PDS components.

One compliance failure can shut down your entire operation. Are your boreholes properly secured?

How do you keep emergency access available while preventing theft and illegal entry? Until now, you couldn't.

An unsecured borehole doesn't just cost money — it can cost lives.

Meet the BOD: Built to Secure. Designed to Perform.

The Borehole Occluding Device (BOD) is a patent-pending security system manufactured from 304 stainless steel, specifically engineered for the demanding conditions of South African mining operations. Featuring friction pads lined with ceramic and carbon compound, our unique design prevents unauthorised removal while maintaining full ventilation capability.

The BOD gives you what no other solution can: complete borehole security that doesn't compromise ventilation or emergency access. It reduces theft, ensures compliance, and requires maintenance only every three months. One device, installed once, protecting your assets around the clock.

The BOD is a stainless steel security device that locks into your borehole, prevents unauthorised access, and allows air to flow freely. It's simple to install, impossible to remove without our proprietary tools, and built to last.

Traditional borehole covers fail. Cages rust. Padlocks get cut. That's why we developed the BOD — a friction-lock device that grips the inside of your casing with over 700kg of holding force. It cannot be removed from above without our specialised tool, making it virtually theft-proof.

Your Questions Answered

From safety systems to multidisciplinary delivery—your answers here.

The BOD uses friction pads lined with ceramic and carbon compound that grip the inside of your borehole casing. Load tests show holding force exceeding 784kg. The device can only be released using our proprietary tool.

Yes. The BOD has undergone liquid penetrant testing by SSASI to ISO 9712:2021 standards, load testing with calibrated equipment, and extensive field testing at Kangra Coal. It is patent pending (2025/06342).

We recommend maintenance every three months, or more frequently in harsh environments. Each device has a unique serial number for easy tracking.

The BOD is manufactured in sizes ranging from 6″ to 32″, covering virtually all borehole applications.

No. Our field tests at Kangra Coal demonstrated that the BOD does not negatively impact ventilation. With auxiliary fan systems, airflow improved by up to 37.8%.

The BOD is constructed from 304 stainless steel for standard mining environments. For harsher conditions, we offer 316 stainless steel.

Absolutely. We provide the specialised installation tool and hook, along with guidance on proper installation procedures.
